In its war with Ukraine, Russia has targeted the environment as its most insidious means of warfare. It has blown up dams, flooded coal mines, burned down national forests, and even targeted the black sea dolphins that inhabit the waters off Ukraine’s coast.

The CWRU Vis Moot Court Team recently competed at the Harvard Law School Vis Pre-Moot Competition in preparation for the most recognized moot competition in the world, the Willem C. Vis Moot. 

The CWRU Jessup International Law Moot Court team (3L Ellie Buerk, 3L Brianna Schmidt, 3L Naomi Matthusen, 2L Patricia Taylor, and 1L Pilar Corso) recently competed against 40 other law schools in Portland, Oregon, for the privilege of representing the United States in the Jessup World Championship Rounds in Washington, DC in April.  

Jenna Chirichetti is the champion of this year’s Case �鶹ӳ�� School of Law Dean Dunmore Moot Court Competition! Justice Melody Stewart, Judge Mary Jane Trapp and Jennifer Mesko served as competition judges.

On the heels of their 2024 national title, the Black Law Student Association Mock Trial team recently prevailed at the Midwest BLSA Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition in Chicago, Illinois. 

Often overlooked as a scientific field, third-year law student Erin Bies describes patent law as “the place where science and law intersect.”

Last fall, Caroline Smith spent her 3L capstone with Smucker Co., a leading consumer packaged goods company. Their portfolio includes timeless brands like Uncrustables, Jif peanut butter, Hostess and Milkbone. 

The Winter 2025 preLaw magazine International Law Program rankings were announced last week, and for the seventh year in a row, Case �鶹ӳ�� School of Law received the magazine’s top ranking.

Case �鶹ӳ�� School of Law will become the first in the nation to require all first-year law students to earn a certification in legal AI.

One of the reasons CWRU School of Law’s International Law Program is ranked so highly is the school’s unique Concurrent Degree Program. A decade ago, CWRU School of Law established three Concurrent Degree Partnerships—with Middlesex University in London, Université Paris-IX Dauphine and Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid.

After graduating from Case �鶹ӳ�� School of Law in 2022, Jilly Fox began her legal career at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in New York City. Recently, she returned to Ohio to continue transactional law work at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP.

With a total of 196 state parties, there are no other international treaties as widely ratified as the four 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Laws of War. But these important treaties are showing their age.

In November, the Compliance, Risk Management and Financial Integrity Institute hosted a lecture by Sanjeev Bhasker on digital assets and cybersecurity. Bhasker serves as Deputy General Counsel with the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD), the White House.
