Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative therapeutic approach that focuses on helping individuals who are ambivalent Βι¶ΉΣ³» change in their behaviors. MI centers on the individual, supports autonomy and involves specific conversations Βι¶ΉΣ³» change.
Building on this approach, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) is a standardized motivational intervention developed as part of a large study on the treatment of alcohol use disorder. MET was created from the core principles of MI to provide a consistent and measurable approach to motivational interventions. While MI is a general approach, MET offers a more structured, time-limited application of motivational techniques.
