Streamed live from 4 to 5 p.m., the teach-in will feature an online conversation with criminal law experts, including Seattle University School of Law Associate Professor Deborah Ahrens, CWRU Law Assistant Professor and Social Justice Law Center Director Ayesha Bell Hardaway and Bryan Adamson, the incoming CWRU chaired professor of law and associate dean of diversity and inclusion. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for members of the community to come together and begin to try and make sense of what we’ve witnessed over the past week,” said Adamson. “That begins with a dialogue on the legal and factual matters at issue in George Floyd’s death at the hands of a police officer. As members of an educational institution, we felt that this, at the very least, is what we should do.” The event will feature a conversation directed toward everyday citizens seeking to make sense out of the Floyd tragedy, examining Floyd’s death, the criminal process from charging to trial, the presently known facts and the intersections of race, gender and law enforcement. The teach-in, streamed live from the Seattle University School of Law YouTube page, is free and open to the public for online participation.
