The Department of Dance at Case ΒιΆΉΣ³» opens the 2019-2020 season on Nov. 1 with Avanti, a presentation of new and revisited works.
Headlining the program is βLike Fragments from an Old Song,β created for the graduate dancers by internationally acclaimed guest choreographer . The work was developed during Tanowitzβs eight day CWRU residency in September and explores fragmented movements woven together by the dancersβ connectivity and intuition, with an homage to the history of Mather Dance Center. The performance is set to and inspired by ββBroad and Free,ββ a composition for violin and piano by contemporary composer .
Alongside this work is the lyrical βAir for the G Stringβ by modern dance pioneer Doris Humphrey, and the fast-paced βCaffeinatedβ by guest choreographer Rounding out the program is βBrothers,β a new work by Department of Dance Professor along with the return of his sensual βIslands of Desire,β which premiered in 2014
